Editorial policy

The rules blogVersy follows when it researches, writes and corrects a story. We publish them so you can hold us to them.

Our standards

  • Be useful first. A story has to answer the question it promises to answer, early and clearly.
  • Be accurate. We use specific facts, name where they come from and leave out anything we cannot support. A number we are unsure about is left out or called an estimate.
  • Be honest in headlines. The headline promises only what the story delivers. No tricks to win a click.
  • Be fair to products and people. We do not claim hands on tests we did not do. Comparisons are based on published specifications, official guidance and reputable sources, and we say so.

How we use artificial intelligence

Stories are researched and drafted with the help of an AI model (Claude, made by Anthropic) that can search the web. The AI is given the topic, the reader we write for and strict rules about sources, tone and honesty. Links in a story are limited to pages that were actually found during research. We do not present the AI's writing as the personal experience of a named human, and the byline is the site name, not a person.

AI can still make mistakes. That is why every story lists its sources, why we ask readers to report errors, and why we treat health, money and legal topics with extra caution (see below).

Sources

We prefer primary sources: government agencies, courts, standards bodies, universities, manufacturers' own documentation and established publications. Each story lists the pages it relied on at the end. Where sources disagree we say so.

Advice topics

Stories about health, money and the law are general information, never personal advice. They rely on official sources, point out that rules differ between countries and regions, and suggest speaking to a qualified professional for decisions that matter. Read the full disclaimer.

Independence, ads and links

Advertising pays for this site, but advertisers do not choose, edit or approve our stories. The site may show ads from advertising networks. If a story ever contains affiliate links, meaning links that pay us a small commission when you buy, they will be marked clearly and will never change what we recommend.

Photos

Photos come from free libraries and are credited to their photographers under each story. A photo illustrates a topic and is not an endorsement.

Corrections and updates

If you report a mistake we check it, and a confirmed error is corrected promptly. When a correction changes the meaning of a story we note it. We also review stories on topics that change often, and update or remove those that are no longer accurate. Send reports through the contact page.

What we learn from readers

We use anonymous reading statistics and the searches typed into our search box to decide what to write next. The privacy policy explains exactly what is recorded.
